7 Day Summer Theatre Camp
RSPA Theatre School, run a successful and results driven extra mural performing arts training school. Students have performed in various professional productions, been cast in national and international movies, achieved international recognition via our examination programmes and have represented South Africa performing at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
With classes covering Drama, Acting, Musical Theatre and more we provide foundation extra mural training for students new to the stage through to performance programmes, specialised training, holiday camps, examinations and workshops.
RSPA Theatre School is an authorised training and examination centre for the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, (LAMDA) and Trinity College, London.
Along with running weekly Performing Arts classes, for ages 5 – 19, RSPA Theatre School run bi-annual Theatre Camps, an opportunity to get our teens away from malls, TVs and all electronics during the holidays; into the Bush and onto the stage.
The 2015 Winter Theatre Camp saw 22 young performers in the “bush” for 7 days writing, rehearsing their own version of “Grimm’s Fairy Tales”. The camp was facilitated by 3 highly skilled RSPA teachers, Mikhaila Wilson Acting & Script Writing, Nicole Theunissen Choreographer and Sanele Sibiya Vocal Coach. The performance featured pop songs, hip hop dance to rap to a fabulous story line that weaved together the lives of Hansel and Gretel, Red Riding Hood and Rumpelstiltskin.
The face to face fellowship that develops over such a short space of time is divine to see. In 7 days campers went from complete strangers to a tight knit performance group with an incredibly strong bond – all we can say is that’s the magic of theatre!
Feedback from our July 2015 Camp:
- Thank you for the Best Camp my granddaughter Nandisa Shange went to last weekend. She said it was her best excursion ever and she enjoyed everything. Not even once missed home. The organising team, everybody who was part of that drama was excellent, they were like a family and it was very hard for them to part. Mandu Dhlamini, Grandfather Nandisa Shange
- Thanks so much for giving Kira an awesome experience. She had a ball. And not just singing, dancing and acting. But backstage stuff too. Amazing how well structured it was after only a week. She’s now resting with her feet up, but would do it all again in a heartbeat. Please send my thanks to all involved. Nina Taylor, Mother Kira Taylor
- Phumezo was very emotional & didn’t want to leave the camo on Sunday after saying the goodbyes, the bond he has formed over the week with every single one in the group is unbelievable, the look on his face was priceless… He has now decided to stay in DBN for his tertiary studies next year so that he can partake in any of the upcoming theatre camps going forward. He has fallen in love with the theatre…Nonhle Dube, Mother of Phumezo
